Summer Uniform

I am pleased to say that the children look good in their summer uniform; it is smart and also comfortable to wear.  The children are also generally wearing sensible shoes this year - thank you for your support in this.  We are also pleased with the very few items in lost property.  I hope we can keep it up to the end of the term.  Please, please, please double check that all uniform is labelled clearly with your child's name.

Letton Hall

Thanks to all parents and helpers that made this trip possible.  It was a tremendous success and the children were complimented many times about their excellent behaviour.  Well done Year 5!  Thank you for making the most of this experience.

Thanks for the vouchers

We have appreciated all the vouchers that have been sent in.  Any remaining ones should be sent to the office via the class teacher ASAP.  Thanks for all you have done to collect these.  We shall be able to claim a large array of school equipment again this year.  The school really benefits from this scheme.  If you wish to volunteer to help count the vouchers just come to the office and offer.

I am still looking to recruit more midday assistants.  If you are interested please let me know.  It is a great way to help the school, improve lunchtimes for children and earn money.

Travelling to St Toms - Update

Now that the weather is fine.  I hope that as many of you as possible will be walking to school each day.  The Walking Buses provde a great service and there are still places available.  My thanks to all of you using this service.  Your children are healthier, more alert and ready to learn.  Please join in by speaking to office staff.

Those of you still driving, please:

                    -        Park in designated bays and not on yellow lines in any circumstances.

                    -        Stay out of private car parks.

                    -        Do not block the Ambulance Station.

I would also like to remind you to not use the school car park for dropping of or picking up your children.  The car park is for staff only - sorry.  It is also not a safe place to walk.  Please avoid doing this too.

I have received confirmation that Merrymeade House is to be redeveloped into 9 small flats with community usage downstairs (i.e. for weddings and functions).  You can rely on me to continue to make representations on your behalf about this.  I hope that a walking bus may one day operate from Merrymeade House.  In the meantime, please continue to use it as a place to park until the building work commences.

Texting

We are pleased that you are still happy with the texting service.  We try to use it to remind you of events that are coming up.  We are sorry that we sometimes forget.  Please do not rely on the text as your one and only source of information.  Often your children are actually the best way to know what is going on.  Reminders of dates are also available on the website, in the reception area TV and on the reverse of this letter.

To swim or not to swim

As a general rule if a child is well enough to come to school then they are well enough to swim.

40th Anniversary

Did you know that it is almost 40 years since the school opened at this site?  We are planning to celebrate this at this year's Summer Fayre, at the Summer Music concerts and in our Eucharists.  We are also looking to hold an exhibition and are looking for artefacts from the past that relate to our school.  Do you have anything that would make an interesting exhibit dating back to before we moved here or from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s?  Please get in touch! thehead-teacher@hotmail.co.uk or speak to Mrs Gowland (Head of History) as she is going to compile the exhibition for the Junior school.

Book Donations

Every year our school library benefits from donated books.  Leavers in Year 6 often see this as a way to leave something behind for future children to benefit from.  If you would like to donate a book, please start thinking now.  There is plenty of time to speak to Mrs Gould (Head of English) about this  You may also like to speak to your child's class teacher.  Obviously hardback books last longer but we use good book covers for paperbacks too.  It is a nice idea to choose a book from an author that your child likes, perhaps thinking about what he or she liked to read at a younger age.  We will provide a bookplate for inside the book - available from the office.  My thanks, in advance, to th ose of you who will donate books this year.
