Newsletter now available to download

Please note that the newsletter is now available via the website.  At the bottom of this page is a pdf format file which, if you click on the icon, will enable you to read or print a copy of the newsletter.

We hope this will be a useful addition, particularly when the newsletter contains reply slips for parents' evening etc and your original copy of the newsletter goes astray

There is so much news at the start of term......

First of all....I want to apologise if you feel that you are being bombarded with letters and so on at the moment.  I can assure you that it will settle down once we get into the swing of things.  The trouble is with such a large school and with so many opportunities for children - it is important that we try to keep everyone informed about what is going on.  So I trust that you will enjoy yet another September newsletter.   In this one, there is a reply form for parents' evening and some news about cutting through Sawyers Hall College.  I have included information about new school equipment too that I think you'll find interesting.

Got too many tomatoes?

We enjoyed a successful sale from our school garden last week - raising over £30 towards further gardening projects.  Next Friday (25th September) we will be doing a similar thing, again after school on the big playground.  However, this time we would like to encourage any of you that have a surplus in your garden to bring some produce along.  Set up your own stall and sell a few items.  You can set your own prices or just give items away for free.  Get your own children involved if you can!  If you wish to share any profits with the school then great - but do as you see fit.

Talking of Fruit and Veg....

It will come as no surprise to you that children that eat fruit and veg in their lunch boxes do better in school.  Children that eat crisps and sweet treats find it harder to concentrate.  Thanks to those of you that work hard to ensure that children only have one treat per day, use brown bread for sandwiches, include sugar free juice, or water, avoid jam and chocolate spread etc.  You make a big difference to the way your child learns.

Parents' evenings

As usual we will be having parents' evenings during Ocober (21st and 22nd) in the school hall.  If your child is taught by a different teacher for English and/or Maths, they will also be available.  Appointments will be about 5 - 10 minutes and your time will be allocated in half-an-hour periods, with parents first in the queue seeing the teacher.  Please return the slip below by 5th October, if you wish to attend.  We will then work out appointment times and get back to you.  If you don't hear from us that usually means that the time you have requested is suitable.  When everyone has returned their slips we will then contact you with a specific half-hour slot and an opportunity to "feed forward" any concerns that you wish to raise.  Please note: we would appreciate you not bringing your children into school on these occasions.
